Reduce Costs

IT Managers are becoming under increasing pressure to do “more for less”, within environments which have grown organically with disparate technologies and support requirements.

The key to delivering cost savings is to ensure that your basic infrastructure is stable with the costs to “keep the lights on” kept to a minimum.  Dependent upon the maturity of your current environment, we can either look to automate specific elements your support model (E.g. Automated PC builds, software deployment etc) or deploy our Managed Service solution which in addition to driving down the cost of support includes all of the standards and tools required to deliver future changes quickly and cost effectively.

Our approach to reducing costs is based around three phases which typically reduce costs by:

Phase 1 - Investigation and Tactical Solutions

Initially, we would look to undertake a review of your current IT infrastructure, processes and expenditure with a view of instigating one or more tactical solutions, all of which can be delivered quickly, without major changes to your current IT Infrastructure and with little or no risk.

Typically, these solutions would consist of:

  • Ensuring that you are procuring your software licenses as effectively as possible

  • Understanding when contracts come up for renewal, so that they can be re-negotiated or future cost saving projects prioritised

  • Provision of technical services on demand to supplement your existing team

  • Investigate the feasibility of using virtualised servers for future business requirements, to reduce both capital and recurring costs whilst delivering a flexible infrastructure with capacity for new business requirements.

  • Ensuring that your programme and project management methodologies include elements to assess Return on Investment calculations so that resources are focused appropriately

At the end of Phase 1, we would review progress to date, including an assessment of the cost savings achieved and prioritise any  additional tactical or strategic projects identified for phases 2 and 3.

Phases 2 and 3 - Strategic Solutions

Typically, Phase 2 would look to deliver solutions which improve the effectiveness for delivering the day to day support services.  Dependent upon the maturity of your current infrastructure, this may include automating some of your support processes (E.g. Inventory management, Performance and Capacity monitoring, Automated PC Builds and Software distribution etc.) or instigating a more strategic solution using our managed service infrastructure.

During Phase 2, it is also common to establish a virtual server infrastructure for new projects or to retire old server hardware.

During Phase 3, we would expect to be realising the full benefits from Phases 1 and 2, implementing more strategic projects (E.g. Server rationalisation) and delivering quantifiable benefits to new projects.
